VIETNAM's People's Committee of Quang Ninh province has issued a licence to the Cai Lan International Container Port Company Ltd to build and operate three new wharves at Cai Lan Port for 50 years.

Under the licensing conditions, the port operator will be required to invest US$103 million in developing the three wharves, according to media reports.

The wharves are expected to be completed in 2014, when they will be able to receive containerships weighing up to 40,000 deadweight tons.

The Cai Lan International Container Company is a joint venture between the Cai Lan Joint Stock Company and SSA Holdings International-Vietnam Inc., an affiliate of the US-based SSA Marine group.
